After La Triennale in Milan, BAOTAZ, the interconnected brain and its augmented sense created during La Cura Summer School, arrived in Pozzili for the European Researchers’ Night organized by Neuromed Foundation.

FromSeptember 28th toSeptember the 30th,  1.200 students from allover in Molise, together with researchers, doctors, institutions and citizens, interacted with the installation confronting with new imaginaries and raising public discussion around it.

BAOTAZ is now guested at Neuromed Foundation: one of the most advanced research center in neuroscience in Italy.

A contamination which highlight how art and design are more and more perceived as catalysts for science, technology and as drivers to bring innovation in societies.

Below an excerpt from the report of the event published by Nefula and written by Marta Cecconi:

“It was an amazing experience.
First of all, we felt that BAOTAZ was in the right place.

[…]

Like healthcare devices, BAOTAZ is a tool to cure people. Not to “treat” but to “cure”. Because no patient is alone, and no disease concerns just one person. Thank to BAOTAZ everyone can see and feel on his/her body the planetary interconnection among people. It is a new augmented emphatic sense through which we could investigate ways in which people could connect with each other, using technology.

During these three days, while we’ve been explained the project to students, teachers, citizens, researchers and scientists, we had the proof of the importance of BAOTAZ in our technological era.

We find that – especially in healthcare field – is a common sense that technologies are made for single individuals. And, specifically, to analyse, take datas and information from the body of a single individual. In our imaginary a technological helmet reads mind. We have not words to describe the surprised and disappointed faces when we explained that BAOTAZ helmet doesn’t read minds but makes possible to feel other people’s emotions on your body.
It’s the end of egocentric tech and the start of empathic tech.

[…]

BAOTAZ makes us able to interact with physical visualisation of our hyper-connected world, and to highlight such implications, confronting with them to raise public discussions.”

Here an article (in Italian) published on La Cura website, highlighting autobiographical and methodological aspects of the event and the relation with Neuromed, which Salvatore and Oriana consider as a new possible “chapter” in the life of La Cura.
